How to Use Gamified E-Learning in Corporate Training?

Imagine the Earth🌍 is on the brink of extinction and you are the superhero whose mission is to retrieve a life-saving drug formula🍾. But, plot twist! This drug is in possession of a brilliant💡 scientist who is stranded on an 👽alien-guarded island. You must answer a set of brain-bending questions at each level. The fate of humanity rests on 🔓unlocking all the five levels and reaching the scientist as quick as possible.

Are you game for a Superhero Mission to Save the Earth
🌍?

   OR

Do you want to complete your mandatory never-ending corporate training?

Obviously! Duh.. save the world. Let me just put my training on hold, despite those reminder emails spamming my inbox for a week.

In this blog, I want to use my first hand experience of 🎮gamified safety training that I had taken and explore why this technique is gaining popularity and the bright side of it when incorporated in corporate e-learning 💻.

Let’s Begin…

👉 I was so pumped up at the premise of saving the Earth and I dived right in, for once I didn’t procrastinate. I started to play (train) and unlock🔓 one level at a time with knowledge unfolding at each step, the thrilling adventure captivated me and I just couldn’t stop. 🎯(Full points for learner engagement).

👉 But what’s a superhero without 🧠memory? I wanted to remember it all, cement my knowledge ensuring it sticks like glue. I didn’t want to fail at any level and disappoint humankind. It’s been 2 years now and I still remember few concepts. (gamification fosters learner retention)

👉 As I progressed, I knew it right away if I was acing👍 it or tanking 👎. I am not a big fan of receiving feedback but the game gave me feedback in real time and it became a welcomed element of the quest. (instant feedback and increased feedback reception)

👉 With conventional e-learning courses I struggled with completion of training. But, since a mandatory, boring 😕 training transformed to a thrilling adventure, I managed to finish the entire course in a single go without any breaks. In the end, the training proved not just effective but addictive 👀thus boosting active participation. (addictive, encouraging active participation)

👉 Learning created a sense of excitement🤓, because I felt I accomplished something and it boosted my motivation. It made my learning experience more powerful and memorable. (Motivation definitely is a productivity booster)

👉 The learning journey wasn’t a solitary venture. Once the training was done, my colleagues and I shared our experiences, our wins 🏆and our losses; bringing an element of team bonding. In my opinion, a competitive element pitting us against each other would spark even more conversations around learnings related to our jobs. (increased team bonding and social interaction paving way to maintaining a healthy work culture)

👉Gamification made the topic that was ‘dry’ and what we’ve been doing as an annual checklist ✔activity, into an enjoyable experience. (fun and interactive activity)

Gamification is not merely turning a learning session into a game. It’s adding fun and making the job less mundane. Gamification is for sure set to shine ☀ in employee training. However, it needs strategic use of instructional design for real impact in 🔓unlocking a learner’s full potential.
